More and more Nepali mountain runners are making their mark as a world-class elite athletes- as and when they are given an opportunity to race outside of Nepal.
Mountain race discipline is gaining exponential popularity in the past decade and these athletes are leaving the world surprised, with their epic performances. While the country doesn’t recognize mountain running as a national sports discipline, it’s this sport that is putting Nepal on the global map of popularity as a mountain running destination.
As the trail races reach the level of the Olympics and world Federation championships, it seems Nepal still might act late to tap into the potential provided by its talented mountain runners. Sportswear brand and dealers within Nepal still seem hesitant to provide much support for the rising stars for gears and international race support, however, the potential of the athletes are recognized by the sportswear brand outside of the country.
One such Vietnamese sportswear brand MUDESports has signed up to sponsor Nepali Athlete Priya Rai, after her performance in the UTMB by Thailand 50K race where she ranked second. MUDE Sports is a small bespoke sportswear brand that specializes in high-performance sports garments and believes in enhancing the quality of life of everyone involved with its sustainable product and process. They support talented Vietnamese trail runners and have extended support for Nepali athletes too.
Priya Rai is locally supported by the Nepal Trail Series under the Athlete Management initiative. Nepal trail series partnered PG Coach trail camp coach Laia Diez Fontanet from Spain has been coaching Priya for the UTMB Championships and managing her official engagements.
Nepal trail series has been managing Asia’s top-ranking trail runner according to ITRA, for the NorthFace Adventure Team- Sunmaya Budha, from Jumla since past 3 years.
