Nothing less than Sensational 2024, Sunmaya Budha, a prominent Nepali trail runner, has made remarkable strides in the ultra-distance running scene in 2024. Her achievements not only place her among the top international athletes but also demonstrate her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. On 2nd November 2024, Sunmaya clean swept the victory home at China’s Tsaigu 105 km race with a course record finishing the race in impressive timing of 9 hours 32 minutes, almost 30 minutes ahead of the runner up female.

Summary of Achievements

Sunmaya's performances in 2024 have been nothing short of extraordinary, with multiple course records and top placements in challenging international races. Her ability to consistently perform at such high levels across diverse terrains reflects her versatility and determination.

Her victory at the Wenling Golden Coast Trail Race was particularly significant, as she not only set a new course record but also triumphed over the world’s second-ranking female 100km runner. This win, along with her first-place finishes and record-setting performances, positions her as a leading figure in the global trail running community.

Sunmaya’s second runner up in one of the world’s toughest race in Spain - Transvulcania 80k is nothing short of exceptional as she competes with some of the World’s top athletes positioning herself and Nepal amongst the world Elite in the Mountain and Trail Running space. It was this race where her predecessor Mira Rai, got injured to a long recovery years to follow.

With multiple course records and clean victories in some of the Elite race events, Sunmaya’s performance positions her as a valuable ambassador for Nepal’s position in Mountain and Trail Running landscape.
